How to Improve Your Focus and Concentration

content

Irrespective of the goals you’ve set for yourself, your level of success depends on how focused and committed you are. If you are able to stay focused on your goals, at work, or at school, you’ll get things done quickly and increase your productivity. On the other hand, if you are constantly distracted, all the time, you are setting yourself up for failure. We live in a time where there are so many endless demands on your attention and everyone and everything is pulling you in different directions, how then do you stay focus in the age of distractions? This blog post highlights what you need to do to allow your brain to focus better.

Stop doing so much stuff
It’s easy to become more focused: stop having so many damn goals. You want so many things. You want to lose weight, learn a new language, travel, and start a new business all at once. This is a surefire way to lose focus and concentration, because you will easily burnout and lose momentum.

Be committed
To improve focus and concentration, you need to be committed to your goals. It's simple as that. A crucial aspect of goal setting is always the why. Ask yourself –

  • Why do I want achieve this goal?
  • How will it affect my life?
  • Will it make my life better?

Remain focused on your goals at all times. Don't say "just one box of chocolate won't hurt" if you have a goal of reducing your sugar intake, doing that too often will disrupt your progress and make it harder to reach your goals. Tell yourself that you can achieve your goals and create a vision of how your life will look like when you do achieve the goal. You have the ability to focus on your goals; all you need to do is decide the most important thing to you and then commit to achieving it. The only wrong choice is no choice.

You know enough
Another major drawback is thinking you don’t have enough information to get started on your goals yet. Keep in mind that there will always be more to learn. The internet offers an enormously large amount of information. Don’t wait till you finish that article, podcast, book, or video course, else you will never be ready. You will learn far more from experience than consumption. Ideas are presented via information; skills are honed through action. Although, this does not mean that you should act blindly for the sake of action, not at all. In fact, learning is an integral part of success and at that it must be a continual process. The point is to differentiate between the kind of ineffective, compulsive learning that the world is saturated with and learning for the sole purpose of taking action. Don’t wait to get started. Start now and make changes along the way.

Do you want to lose 30 pounds? Splendid. A good place to start is to move more and chose healthy food. You have enough information. Learning to focus on the right thing is not important, just commit to the fundamentals. Once you build good habits, there will be plenty of time to figure out the details.  It's simple, decide what you want, identify why you want it, outline steps to achieve it and then just TAKE ACTION!

Final thoughts
If you’ve been putting off something in your life, what are you waiting for? If you’ve been waiting for that perfect moment to arrive, hear this right now: It will never come. There will always be something standing in your way. Start immediately. Fully commit. Remember life is short. Give everything (or something) your all.
